TALKS PROGRAMME: LUIZA PEREIRA FURQUIM (ALGRANO)
Born in Brazil, Luiza worked as a journalist in São Paulo until 2016, when she embraced coffee as a career. She started working in the specialty sector as a barista, where she also participated in an origin trip for roasters, and quickly moved into roasting and quality control as soon as she arrived in the UK. Luiza joined Algrano in 2019 in the sourcing team, and has visited producers in Colombia, Ethiopia and several Central American countries. Today dedicated to writing about the coffee supply chain, she leads initiatives such as Algrano's Market Trends Report and Impact Report, presenting the projects frequently at industry events.
Talk Title: Sustainability or ESGibberish? An integrity checklist for coffee reports
Many companies in coffee and beyond report on sustainable to promote their social and environmental initiatives. But despite good intentions, consumers and the community are confused. In this talk, we’ll share how coffee companies can talk about their businesses and practices with integrity, helping consumers understand what’s real impact and what’s greenwashing. Coffee drinkers are welcome to join. They’ll learn what to look out for in sustainability reports and understand who their buying from.
