Glasgow Coffee Festival 2024 Roast Hero Competition

We were delighted to launch the brand new Roast Hero competition at this year’s Glasgow Coffee Festival! Inspired by a similar Nordic event, the competition is a peer-assessed challenge that takes real-world roasting experience and puts the knowledge & skill of Scottish roasteries to the test.

Focusing on the roasting and sourcing skills, the Roast Hero competition is designed to be accessible for the wide range of elements that shape a great coffee roaster. We know that some of the best coffee experts are hiding in roasteries across the country, so for Glasgow Coffee Festival’s 10th year, we invited ten independently owned Scottish micro roasters to compete for the title of Roast Hero 2024!

We gave each roastery the same coffee to roast, plus we invited them to submit a coffee from their range. The boundless enthusiasm and passion was very evident during the competition! Both our roast heroes and the festival attendees judged the coffee in a blind tasting and the winner was announced on the Glasgow Coffee Festival stage.

We were delighted to announce that Cult Coffee Roasters took home the top spot, with Dear Green Coffee Roasters coming second and Machina Coffee finishing third. We would like to congratulate all those who took part in providing the best-tasting cup possible at the Glasgow Coffee Festival 2024. We look forward to hosting more Roast Hero competitions in the future!
